Secondary visit program
Assembly excursion
We offer free secondary and senior secondary education excursions to the Legislative Assembly. The program is aligned with aims of year 9 and 10 Civics and Citizenship (Australian Curriculum), Legal Studies, and Politics curricula (ACTBSS, IB, and HSC).
Core program
Our core program caters to groups of up to 30 students and runs for one hour. It includes:
An interactive exploration of the role and functions of the Legislative Assembly, and
An immersive roleplay where students take on the roles of ministers, members, and clerks to replicate how laws are made in the ACT.
- We have a range of senior and senior secondary curriculum-aligned roleplay topics that will get your students engaged and involved, including:
- Lowering the voting age for ACT elections to 16
- Free public transport for for school-aged kids, and
- Changing school hours from 10am-4pm.
For groups over 30 (and up to 60), students will be split in two smaller groups each running the same program concurrently. We can run two-shift visits for groups of over 60 students (up to 120).
Optional add-ons
We have two add-ons which are great value adds to your excursion. Where add-ons take your visit to two (2) hours long, we include a short break between sessions for students.
A Q&A session with Members of the Legislative Assembly where students can ask them about their work, what inspires them, and current issues (30 minutes)
A short guided tour of the Assembly building, including the chamber and committee rooms (30 minutes)
