Westminster Workshop
A senior secondary event about the Westminster system, comparative politics, and active citizenship

Spend a day learning about the political system that ties parliaments together, from Canberra to Kigali! Students are immersed in the world of the Westminster system examining how it works in the ACT and abroad through short lectures, role plays, and collaborative research with peers. They will also learn how to be an active citizen in the ACT, participate in a Q&A session with some members of the Assembly.
About the workshop
Registrations begins at 8.45am. The program begins at 9am. The convention has 4 components:
- 9.15am — Introduction to the Assembly and how it makes laws
- 10.30am — Catered morning tea
- 11.15am — Workshop on the Westminster system
- 11.15am — Collaborative comparisons of Westminster system parliaments worldwide
- 12.30pm — Catered lunch
- 1.30pm — Workshop on being an active citizenship
This event includes complimentary tea, coffee, and water plus a free catered morning tea and lunch. We're also happy to cater to dietary requirements so long as advance notice is given.

- Room access: The program uses the Assembly reception room and chamber. All rooms are on the ground floor with wide double-door entries. All surfaces are level and are a mix of carpet and laminate wood flooring.
- Audio-visual: We use a high-lumen projector and ceiling-suspended screen for visual presentations. An in-built microphone and speaker system is available for presenters to use, if you require it. You receive digital copies of all material presented after the event, too.
Book for this program
Bookings for this program are taken via email. Due to limited space, schools can initially nominate up to five to seven students. A teacher must accompany their school group for the program's duration.
