Venue information

The Legislative Assembly is located at 196 London Circuit, Canberra, ACT. The public entrance is accessed from Civic Square.

Getting to the Legislative Assembly

Public transport

The Assembly is a 6-minute walk from the Alinga Street light rail station and Civic interchange. There are also two bus-stops outside the Assembly building (stops 3003 and 3356) serviced by Transport Canberra routes R2 – R7, R10, 54 – 58, 180 – 182, and Qcity Transit routes 830 and 842.

The Transport Canberra website includes accessibility information for buses and light rail .

School or charter buses can set down visitors in the designated stop on Civic Square, but availability of these spaces cannot be guaranteed.

Taxis

Wheelchair Accessible Taxis are available in the ACT via a centralised booking service.

Parking

There is no public parking at the Assembly.

Theatre Lane Parking and 300 Constitution Ave Parking are close to Civic Square, both accessible from London Circuit.

Taxis, cars, school, or charter busses can set down visitors in the designated stop on Civic Square, but availability of these spaces cannot be guaranteed.


Arriving at the Legislative Assembly

Entrance

The automatic double entrance doors to the Assembly are behind the statue ‘Ethos’.

Information desk

Inside the Assembly building, there is clear and level access to the front desk which is staffed by our attendant team.

The front desk is 840mm high.

Visitors are required to sign-in on an electronic tablet. Our attendants can assist you. The application used— Sine—is also available as an app for download on smart devices.

Security procedures

All visitors are required to go through security—the process is like that of an airport. Our friendly attendants will help you through this process.

Our walkthrough scanner is 750mm wide. Our attendants can provide alternative screening if a wheelchair or mobility device cannot fit through the scanner.


Inside the Assembly building

Indoor surfaces

All public areas are wheelchair accessible. Please note, the floor coverings vary and consist of wood, carpet, and tiles.

Most public areas are on the ground floor, except our exhibition space on Level 1.

Lifts (elevators)

Our exhibition space, and members’ offices, are on levels 1 and 2 and accessible by lift.

Our lifts have a door width of 890mm, a depth of 1400mm, and a height of 2100mm.

Public toilets

There is an accessible, unisex public toilet available in our Committee corridor. It is accessible from all public areas. Our friendly attendants can direct you to it.

It contains a toilet, sink, baby change facility, and space for mobility equipment.

Guide dogs and assistance animals

Guide dogs and other assistance animals accompanied by their handler are welcome in our public areas.

Hearing loop

Hearing loops are available in the Assembly chamber and committee rooms. The magnetic induction loops provide listening assistance to compatible hearing aids.

FM radio personal assisted-listening devices are also available on request. They consist of a personal hearing loop connected to a battery powered receiver pack. This device provides a volume controllable signal to induction loop compatible hearing aids and can also be used with regular headphones.

The Chamber is wheelchair accessible and has a hearing loop available.

Attend or participate in a committee hearing
