Are you looking for an interesting, diverse, and rewarding opportunity in our Territory’s parliament?
Each year, the Office of the Legislative Assembly offers a placement opportunity to graduates accepted into the ACT Public Service Graduate Program. You’ll have a unique opportunity to join the small team of parliamentary officers that support the work of the Assembly and its committees.
Step behind the gold columns
The ACT Legislative Assembly is the parliament for the nation's capital. It performs both territory and local level functions and makes decisions that impact the lives of those who live and work in the ACT. The Office of the Legislative Assembly is its non-political support organisation, headed by the Clerk, Tom Duncan.
You might choose to work behind the scenes in the Assembly’s legislative process, immerse yourself in a committee inquiry, bring your editing skills to the Hansard team, or present education programs to an audience. Parliamentary roles can be varied and the skills you’ll learn are complimentary with other ACT public service positions.
The work is interesting, diverse and challenging, and you’ll get an opportunity to support the Assembly and members in their accountability, representation and legislative functions.
There are two ways you can join us:
1. Permanent placement: Each year, one placement will be offered within the Office. When you successfully complete the graduate program, you will be promoted to a permanent position at the Administrative Services Officer 5 (or equivalent) classification.
2. Rotational placement: During the interview, you can express a preference to complete a rotation with the Office of the Legislative Assembly - in the Office of the Clerk, Parliamentary Support, or Business Support branches.
We are looking for high performing graduates from a range of disciplines who are highly motivated, with sound research and analytical skills, effective communication skills and good interpersonal skills.
