14. Inquiry into Planning for the Surgical Procedures, Interventional Radiology and Emergency Centre (SPIRE) and the Canberra Hospital campus and immediate surrounds
The Standing Committee on Planning and Urban Renewal invites submissions to its inquiry into Planning for the Surgical Procedures, Interventional Radiology and Emergency Centre (SPIRE) and the Canberra Hospital campus and immediate surrounds.
Written submissions should be lodged with the Committee Secretary by close of business on Sunday, 23 February 2020.
The Committee prefers all submissions to be lodged in electronic form (Word format), although handwritten submissions are acceptable. All submissions, including those sent electronically, must include a name, an email address, a postal address and a telephone contact number. Personal contact details will not be published.

To inquire into and report on: Planning for the Surgical Procedures, Interventional Radiology and Emergency Centre (SPIRE) and the Canberra Hospital campus and immediate surrounds, with reference to:
- Planning for the SPIRE project, including:
- site selection
- consultation process(es)
- project timeline
- vehicle (including public and ambulance) access via Palmer Street and Gilmore Crescent to the Canberra Hospital
- other traffic and parking issues
- community safety and environmental considerations
- impact on surrounding residences, school and community facilities
- impact on existing hospital and emergency infrastructure and services
- Longer term planning for the Canberra Hospital campus and immediate surrounds, including:
- development of Master Plan and possible Canberra Hospital Precinct Plan
- mechanisms for ongoing consultation with the local community
- safe traffic flow within the Canberra Hospital campus
- traffic and parking within the Canberra Hospital campus
- management of impacts on local community and school
- management of impacts on the safety of the community
- emergency vehicle and helicopter access
- impact of helicopter noise on surrounding residences and school
- Any other relevant matter.
