The Legislative Assembly is an active member of the global community of parliaments. We participate in several international organisations and partner directly with other legislatures. Through this work, the Assembly remains innovative and open to new ideas, as well as shares its experience to help build stronger, more resilient democracies worldwide.
Partner parliaments
The Assembly has two formal partner parliaments: the Maneaba ni Maungtabu Kiribati and the Legislative Assembly of Prince Edward Island.

Maneaba ni Maungatabu Kiribati
Our relationship with Kiribati's national parliament began in 2008 as part of the CPA Australia Region's twin parliaments program. Despite the 4,700km between Canberra and Tarawa, the relationship stays active through regular visits, staff attachments, and technical exchanges.
This partnership is the namesake of our building's Kiribati Room.

Legislative Assembly of Prince Edward Island
Our partnership with the PEI Legislative Assembly began in in 2019 under a parliamentary partnership agreement. It is a direct bilateral agreement rather than one facilitated by an interparliamentary organisation, supporting the exchange of knowledge on legislating, governance, and community engagement.
This partnership is the namesake of our building's Prince Edward Island Room.
Interparliamentary organisations
The Assembly is a member of the Commonwealth Parliamentary Association
(CPA) and its Australian
, women
, and small parliaments
subgroups. Members participate in CPA workshops and training to both develop their skills as legislators and support the development of others.
We also cooperate with parliamentary development projects assisting Pacific parliaments run by the United Nations Development Program.
Our staff also participate in regional professional networks, including the:
- Association of Parliamentary Libraries of Australasia

- Australasian Parliamentary Educators

- Australasian Study of Parliament Group

- Australia and New Zealand Association of Clerks-at-the-Table

- Commonwealth Hansard Editors Association

- Parliamentary Professional Services Network
, and - Society of Clerks-at-the-Table in Commonwealth Parliaments

Organising a visit
The Assembly welcomes visits from members, delegations, and parliamentary officers from other jurisdictions. Whether you're planning a courtesy call, a study visit, or a technical exchange, we can help arrange a program that suits your delegation.
To organise a visit, email visits@parliament.act.gov.au with:
- Your preferred dates
- Number of visitors/delegation size
- The purpose of your visit
We'll work with you to arrange an appropriate program. Please allow at least two weeks' notice for individual visits and four weeks' notice for delegations and high-level visits to allow for our internal processes.
