Public Hearing

Inquiry into Racial Vilification

On Tuesday 9 August 2022 from 1:30pm the Standing Committee on Education and Community Inclusion (the Committee) will hold its second public hearing for the Inquiry into Racial Vilification.

The following witnesses will appear before the Committee:

The hearing will be held in the Kiribati room, ACT Legislative Assembly. It will also be broadcast. A video recording and a transcript will be made available after the hearing on the Committee’s website.

Committee Chair Mr Michael Pettersson MLA said, “this additional hearing will help to increase crucial understanding of how we can prevent racial vilification in the ACT”.

The Inquiry into Racial Vilification is investigating the prevalence of vilification and threats of physical violence in the Territory, based on racial, linguistic, ethnic, or religious background, and status as an Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander person, and the accessibility and effectiveness of mechanisms for reporting such incidents.
