Inquiry into Racial Vilification – Extension of deadline to provide submissions

The Standing Committee on Education and Community Inclusion (the Committee) is undertaking an Inquiry into Racial Vilification. Terms of Reference for the inquiry are available on the Committee’s website: https://www.parliament.act.gov.au/parliamentary-business/in-committees/committees/eci/inquiry-into-racial-vilification

The Committee has decided to extend the deadline for providing submissions to the inquiry until Friday 10 June 2022. This is to provide additional time for members of the ACT community to engage with the Committee, and to ensure the Committee can obtain the evidence necessary to make meaningful recommendations for change.

The Committee Chair, Mr Michael Pettersson MLA, stated that ‘the public hearing yesterday reinforced the importance of engaging with a broad range of stakeholders, to ensure the inquiry fully captures the views and experiences of our diverse community’.

Stakeholders would be welcome to make their submissions in languages other than English and may ask for their submission to be made confidential. Further information about making a submission to this inquiry is available on the Committee’s website, and via the ACT Legislative Assembly’s website: https://www.parliament.act.gov.au/parliamentary-business/in-committees/Getting-involved

The Committee is currently due to report to the Assembly by 30 September 2022.
