MEDIA RELEASE

Inquiry – Hearing with the ACT Legal Aid Commission into Community Corrections and its Annual Report

The Standing Committee on Justice and Community Safety is holding a public hearing today, WEDNESDAY 16 March 2022, with the Legal Aid Commission.

At 11.00am, the Commission will give evidence to the Committee for its inquiry into Community Corrections.

The Committee will hear evidence from Dr John Boersig PSM, Chief Executive Officer of the ACT Legal Aid Commission and officials. The Commission’s submission to the inquiry has recommended increasing certainty around parole and removing the requirement that only ACT residents are eligible for an intensive corrections order (serving a short court sentence in the community).

At 11.30am, the Commission will give evidence in relation to its Annual Report 2020-21.

The hearing will be held via WebEx and streamed live. The live broadcast and recording will be available on Video on Demand.

The Terms of Reference for the inquiry are available at Inquiry into Community Corrections - ACT Legislative Assembly
