Ms Jo Clay MLA, Chair of the Standing Committee on Health and Community Wellbeing today tabled out of session the committee’s report on its Inquiry into Recovery Plan for Nursing and Midwifery workers.

On 3 August 2021, petition 19-22 was tabled in the Assembly. The petition was signed by 2,696 signatories, and called for development of, and investment in, a clear and sustained recovery plan for nursing and midwifery workers.

The committee report makes 20 recommendations.

‘Frontline healthcare workers, particularly nurses and midwives, touch the lives of all Canberrans, often in stressful and tiring circumstances’ said Ms Clay.

‘During its inquiry the committee heard from many individuals and organisations about the invaluable work undertaken by nurses and midwives, often at the expense of their own health and wellbeing.’

‘The committee’s recommendations are focused on practical actions to provide further support and training opportunities for nurses and midwives, while supporting the ongoing stability of the ACT health system.’

‘We thank the ACT Government, as well as those organisations and individuals who shared their expertise and personal experiences throughout the committee’s inquiry.’

The report is available on the Assembly’s website at: Inquiry into Recovery Plan for Nursing and Midwifery Workers - ACT Legislative Assembly
