Inquiry into Property Developers Bill 2023 report

The Chair of the Standing Committee on Planning, Transport and City Services, Ms Jo Clay MLA, today tabled out of session the Committee’s report on its Inquiry into Property Developers Bill 2023.

The Committee’s report made 7 recommendations on a range of issues in relation to the Bill.

Ms Jo Clay MLA said, ‘This Bill represents a significant and ambitious reform package that seeks to bring property developers into the chain of accountability for building defects in the ACT. It comes in response to ongoing community concerns about the conduct of residential property developers and building defects in the ACT.’

‘The Bill aims to improve accountability and transparency in the building and construction industry and ensure that developers will be competent and have the capacity to deliver quality buildings.’

Ms Clay said, ‘The Committee consulted widely across industry stakeholders, peak bodies, community organisations and the public receiving 29 submissions and hearing from 25 witnesses in person at a public hearing.’

‘The Committee wishes to extend its appreciation to all inquiry participants for their engagement throughout the inquiry process and for the valuable contributions they made in assisting and informing the Committee's deliberations.’

The Committee’s report is available on the Assembly’s webpage at https://www.parliament.act.gov.au/parliamentary-business/in-committees/recent-reports
