Report tabled – Inquiry into the Future of School Infrastructure in the ACT

Mr Michael Pettersson MLA, Chair of the Standing Committee on Education and Community Inclusion Committee today tabled the committee’s report on its Inquiry into the Future of School Infrastructure in the ACT.

The committee received 18 submissions, held one public hearing and visited 10 schools across ACT, New South Wales, South Australia and Victoria.

The committee report makes 26 recommendations to improve planning and design for enhanced amenity and access at ACT schools to meet the educational needs of our growing population.

The report is available on the Assembly’s website at Inquiry into the Future of School Infrastructure in the ACT - ACT Legislative Assembly.

‘Effective and targeted planning for modern and flexible school infrastructure is vital to ensuring the continued provision of quality education in the ACT,’ said Mr Pettersson.

‘During our inquiry, the committee heard from a range of stakeholders, including teachers, academics, students, parents and unions. One thing they all agreed on was the critical role the built environment plays in shaping the education experiences of children in the ACT.’

‘We thank the ACT Government and those organisations and individuals who participated in this inquiry. In particular, the committee is grateful to the 10 schools and their staff who showcased how different infrastructure can be used to enhance teaching and learning.’

Under the Assembly’s standing orders, the ACT Government is required to table its response to the report within four months.
