MEDIA RELEASE

Report tabled – Integrity Commission Amendment Bill 2022 (No 2)

Today the Chair of Standing Committee on Justice and Community Safety, Mr Peter Cain MLA, tabled the Committee’s report for its Inquiry into the Integrity Commission Amendment Bill 2022 (No. 2).

The Committee received two submissions to the inquiry but following agreement by the Assembly to extend the reporting date for this inquiry, considered the outcomes of the Government’s review of the Integrity Commission Act 2018 prior to finalising its inquiry.  The Committee made one recommendation:

that the ACT Government should accept and implement recommendations 15, 16 and 17 of the review of the ACT Integrity Commission by Mr Ian Govey AM as part of its overall legislative response to the full findings and recommendations of the review.  Doing this will mean that it will no longer be necessary to pass the Integrity Commission Amendment Bill 2022 (No 2) as the intent of that bill will be effectively met.

The Committee’s report is available on the Assembly’s webpage at

The Committee would like to thank those who made submissions to this inquiry.

Under the Assembly’s standing orders, the ACT Government is required to respond to Committee reports within four months of tabling.
