Inquiry into the future of the working week—Report tabled
The Standing Committee on Economy and Gender and Economic Equality today tabled the Committee’s report on its Inquiry into the future of the working week.
The Committee consulted widely with community groups, academics, unions, and individuals, receiving 34 written submissions, three exhibits, and over 1,000 responses to an online survey. The Committee also held four public hearings in April and May 2023, hearing from 19 individuals and organisations.
The Committee’s report made three recommendations:
- that the ACT Government note the findings of the report into the future of the working week;
- that the ACT convene a working group to develop a roadmap to inform a trial with the ACT Public Service of the four-day work week; and
- that the ACT Government develop a pilot program with support structures for private sector employers who would like to voluntarily trial a four-day work week.
The Committee’s report, with a dissenting report by Ms Castley, is available on the Assembly’s webpage at: https://www.parliament.act.gov.au/parliamentary-business/in-committees/recent-reports
Under the Assembly’s standing orders, the ACT Government is required to respond to committee reports within four months of tabling.
STATEMENT ENDS—Thursday, 14 September 2023
