Report tabled for the inquiry into
Road Safety and Crimes Legislation Amendment Bills 2022
The Standing Committee on Justice and Community Safety published a report today on the Road Safety and Crimes Legislation Amendment Bills 2022.
- The Crimes Legislation Amendment Bill 2022 makes several amendments including creating a new offence of unauthorised entry of a motor vehicle.
- The Road Safety Legislation Amendment Bill 2022 makes changes to amend the road safety legislation to improve road safety by strengthening the reporting and monitoring of driver licence holders’ fitness to drive and provide enhanced penalties to deter dangerous driving behaviours.
The report made seven recommendations including to conduct a review after two years to ensure that vulnerable groups are not adversely impacted by the changes. The Inquiry was undertaken over a period in which the Committee was also undertaking a separate inquiry into Dangerous Driving which considered related matters.
Under the Assembly’s standing orders, the Government is required to respond to committee reports within four months of tabling.
