Report tabled for the inquiry into

Dangerous Driving

The Chair of the Standing Committee on Justice and Community Safety, published a report today on its Inquiry into Dangerous Driving. The report made 28 recommendations in relation to the criminal justice response to dangerous driver offending, police response, preventative measures and support for victims of dangerous driving.

The Committee thanks all inquiry participants for their engagement in the inquiry process and the valuable contributions they made in assisting and informing the Committee’s deliberations.

Mr Peter Cain MLA, Chair of the Committee said: ‘The evidence presented to the Committee shows that dangerous driving in the ACT is a serious concern and can have devasting consequences.  The Committee appreciates in particular evidence provided from parents of victims who have died in road accidents and thanks them for their courage and insights into possible ways to prevent dangerous driving, help police with their enquiries and improvements in assistance for victims.’

Under the Assembly’s standing orders, the Government is required to respond to committee reports within four months of tabling.
