Report tabled for the inquiry into
Corrections and Sentencing Legislation Amendment Bill 2022
The Standing Committee on Justice and Community Safety published a report today on Correction and Sentencing Legislation Amendment Bill 2022. The report made seven recommendations to the bill.
The Committee made a number of recommendations including providing more information about the details underpinning the amendments related to:
- the reporting of breaches of good behaviour orders
- assessment processes used to determine if a person is eligible for a community-based interstate sentence transfer
- how to minimise the use of intrusive searches of detainees and visitors to ACT Corrections Centres and
- the therapeutic support provided to detainees to assist them give up smoking when the smoking bans commence at ACT Corrections Centres.
Under the Assembly’s standing orders, the Government is required to respond to committee reports within four months of tabling.
