Inquiry into the Voluntary Assisted Dying Bill 2023

A new Assembly Select Committee has been formed to examine the Voluntary Assisted Dying Bill 2023 and report back to the Assembly by 29 February 2024.

The Select Committee on the Voluntary Assisted Dying Bill 2023 will examine the bill, which was introduced to the Assembly by the Minister for Human Rights, Ms Tara Cheyne on 31 October 2023. The bill seeks to regulate voluntary assisted dying in the ACT.

Voluntary assisted dying (VAD) refers to a medical process that gives an eligible individual the option to end their suffering by choosing to die through the administration of an approved substance.

The Committee wants to hear from a wide range of stakeholders and welcomes submissions to this inquiry by 8 December 2023.
