MEDIA RELEASE

Health Infrastructure Enabling Bill 2023

On 11 May 2023, the Minister for Health presented the Health Infrastructure Enabling Bill 2023 to the Assembly.

Following the presentation of the bill, the Assembly debated and passed a motion allowing for the Bill to be debated by the Assembly prior to any committee inquiry or report, with the exception of the Standing Committee on Justice and Community Safety in its Legislative Scrutiny role.

Mr Johnathan Davis MLA, Chair of the Assembly’s Standing Committee on Health and Community Wellbeing, stated that “the Committee acknowledges the decision of the Assembly in passing the motion.”

He also advised that “to enable the Committee to still perform its role of scrutinising government health policy, the Committee will be writing to the Chief Minister, Minister for Health and the Minister for Mental Health requesting briefings.”

The Committee will be asking for fortnightly, 30-minute briefings with Ministers and Canberra Health Service officials, to be held during the Committee’s regular private meetings.

The Committee is looking forward to receiving these briefings.
