MEDIA RELEASE

Report on Natural Gas Transition Bill

The Chair of the Standing Committee on Environment, Climate Change and Biodiversity, Dr Marisa Paterson MLA, today tabled the Committee’s report into its Inquiry into Climate Change and Greenhouse Gas Reduction (Natural Gas Transition) Amendment Bill 2022.

The Committee’s report made seven recommendations covering a broad range of issues in relation to the Bill, which will amend the Climate Change and Greenhouse Gas Reduction Act 2010 to create a new regulation-making power that would enable new natural gas connections to be prohibited in prescribed circumstances.

Committee Chair, Dr Marisa Paterson MLA said, ‘The Committee is of the view that due to major policy changes proposed in the Bill, it was important to conduct this inquiry to review this piece of legislation. We thank all those who contributed to the Committee’s inquiry.’

The Committee’s report is available on the Assembly’s webpage at https://www.parliament.act.gov.au/parliamentary-business/in-committees/recent-reports

Under the Assembly’s standing orders, the ACT Government is required to respond to committee reports within four months of tabling.
