MEDIA RELEASE

New inquiry into the waste management of absorbent hygiene products

Canberrans are invited to have their say on the management of absorbent hygiene product waste, such as nappies, in the ACT.

The Standing Committee on Environment, Climate Change and Biodiversity has announced a new inquiry and is inviting submissions until 26 September 2022.

The Committee is interested in a wide array of topics related to absorbent hygiene product waste, including opportunities for waste minimisation, short and long-term solutions to recycling, composting and waste management, education on the benefits of using sustainable and environmentally-friendly products, and policy and regulatory settings.

Committee Chair, Dr Marisa Paterson MLA, said ‘Absorbent hygiene product waste has a significant impact on landfill. Now as more environmentally-friendly options are becoming available it is a good time to look at ways to minimise and manage this waste.’
