INQUIRY INTO THE FUTURE OF SCHOOL INFRASTRUCTURE IN THE ACT

The Education and Community Inclusion Committee today announced an inquiry into the future of school infrastructure in the ACT.

The inquiry will consider the built school environment and its implications for access, learning, teacher and student wellbeing, the external environment and the wider community.

The Chair of the Committee, Mr Pettersson MLA, said, ‘The future of the built environment has become a global concern for all sectors for a range of important reasons. The capturing of a mutual vision for the construction of shared spaces strikes at the heart of the educational future for children in the ACT’.

‘This inquiry aims to investigate the crucial links between school infrastructure, learning and well-being in order to inform targeted and effective long-term planning for our schools’, Mr Pettersson said.

‘The Committee is also keen to learn from children and young people about their ideas for schools of the future’, Mr Pettersson said, ‘The Committee will be pleased to accept submissions in a range of formats, including children’s drawings or designs from secondary students, for example’.

The Committee invites submissions addressing any or all aspects of the terms of reference. Submissions can be made in writing, drawings and video recordings, and can be emailed to LACommitteeECI@parliament.act.gov.au.

Submissions to the inquiry opened on 6 December 2022 and close on 17 March 2023.
