MEDIA RELEASE
Inquiry into Auditor-General’s Performance Audit Reports January 2022 – June 2022
The Standing Committee on Public Accounts (the Committee) has announced it will be undertaking a new inquiry entitled Inquiry into Auditor-General’s Performance Audit Reports January 2022 – June 2022.
During the course of the inquiry, the Committee will be inquiring into and reporting on all performance audit reports released by the ACT Auditor-General between 1 January 2022 and 30 June 2022. The Committee will inquire into the following performance audit reports:
- 1/2022 – Management of Detainee Mental Health Services in the Alexander Maconochie Centre
- 2/2022 – Fraud Prevention
- 3/2022 – Taxi Subsidy Scheme
- 4/2022 – Governance arrangements for the planning of Parkwood, Ginninderry
Until now the Committee has undertaken standalone inquiries into selected reports of the Auditor-General. Moving forward, the Committee has resolved to inquire into all performance audit reports jointly. The Committee does, however, note that it will continue to conduct standalone inquiries into audit reports where it deems it necessary and in the public interest.
The move toward jointly inquiring into audit reports draws on the established practices of other Australian jurisdictions, and will allow the Committee to undertake more self-referred inquiries into matters of public importance. The Committee will continue to address concerns raised in the Latimer House Review Report for the 9th Assembly that too few performance audit reports had been inquired into previously.
STATEMENT ENDS — Friday, 8 July 2022
