Hearing into the
Family Violence Legislation Amendment Bill 2022

The Standing Committee on Justice and Community Safety is holding a public hearing today, FRIDAY 18 March 2022, from 1:15pm to 4:00pm, for its Inquiry into the Family Violence Legislation Amendment Bill 2022.

The legislation proposes to introduce higher maximum penalties for certain offences when committed in the context of family violence and make procedural changes to improve access to justice for victim survivors. The Bill implements a number of recommendations from the Final Report of the Review of the Family Violence Act 2016, which was published in February 2021, as well as introduce other important law reforms. The Committee will hear evidence from the Attorney-General, Mr Shane Rattenbury MLA, Ms Yvette Berry MLA, Minister for the Prevention of Domestic and Family Violence, the Women’s Legal Centre, the Domestic Violence Crisis Service, and the ACT Law Society.

The Justice and Community Safety Committee must report to the ACT Legislative Assembly by 14 April 2022.
