Report on Family Violence Legislation Amendment Bill 2022

The Family Violence Legislation Amendment Bill 2022 was presented in the Assembly on 10 February 2022 by the Attorney-General, Mr Shane Rattenbury MLA.

The Justice and Community Safety Committee conducted an inquiry into the Bill, and today issued a report recommending that the Assembly pass the Bill with some recommendations to review aspects of longer sentences and to update the Assembly in two years after the commencement of the Act.

The amendments introduce higher maximum penalties for certain offences when committed in the context of family violence, and make procedural changes to improve access to justice for victim survivors.
