Report on the 2020 Election

An Assembly Committee today published a report recommending 52 improvements to the Electoral Act 1992, and the administration of the electoral system.

The Standing Committee on Justice and Community Safety was asked to review the conduct of the 2020 election on behalf of the Assembly, and assess the need for any changes to electoral law or policy.

During the inquiry, the Committee heard from candidates and volunteers, major political parties, Independent and small parties, academic experts, and the Electoral Commission.

Committee recommendations cover topics including early voting, electronic voting, campaigning rules, roadside signs, donations and reporting, voter participation, and lowering the voting age.
