Speaker of the Legislative Assembly Joy Burch MLA has announced this year’s winning recipients of the Emerging Artist Support Scheme Speakers Art prize and recognised two final-year students from the ANU School of Art and Design 2021 Graduating Exhibition.

The Emerging Artist Support Scheme prize is awarded to up to two students each year.  Recipients receive a $500 grant to support their practice after graduation and their winning work is exhibited in the London Circuit corridor of the Assembly building for the year. They are also invited to jointly curate an exhibition in the Assembly gallery the following year.

Now in her sixth year of awarding the prize, Ms Burch reflected on how “the exceptional quality and creativity of art produced at ANU makes choosing only one or two works each year a real challenge.”

“Students at the School of Art and Design contribute greatly to the vibrancy of Canberra’s visual arts scene while studying here. I thank them for their contributions and wish them every success in their future careers.”

The Emerging Artist Support Scheme prize is part of the long-standing relationship between the Legislative Assembly, its Art Advisory Committee, and the ANU School of Art and Design.
