Public sector seminar
A public servant's introduction to the Assembly and working with it. These are available to ACT Public Sector Staff ONLY.
In-person option

The Assembly holds regular seminars for public sector staff about the ACT Legislative Assembly, how it works, and how they might be involved in that work. It is delivered in two formats: a half-day in-person seminar and a 90-minute digital seminar. All seminars are the same content being run throughout the year.
About the seminar
In-person option
Registration begins at 8.30am and the program starts at 9am. The seminar has 6 components:
- Into to the roles and functions of the Assembly
- The Assembly's documents and procedures
- What types of laws there are, how they're made, and where to find them online
- How the Assembly and ACT Government interact
- Assembly committees, their inquiries, and legislative scrutiny
- Parliamentary privilege primer for public servants
The seminar include complimentary tea, coffee, and water plus a free catered 30-minute morning tea. Please note any dietary requirements when booking your place.
Digital option
The program starts at 10.30am and has 4 components:
- Intro to the roles and functions of the Assembly
- The Assembly's documents and procedures
- How laws are made in the ACT, and
- Assembly committees and their inquiries
A Q&A session occurs at the seminars end. An educator will also answer questions written in the chat box during the presentation.
The digital seminar is hosted on Microsoft Teams, which means you can join from home or the office.
The seminars are for ACT public servants or federal public servants who interact with the ACT Legislative Assembly as part of their work. - Room access: The in-person program uses the Assembly reception room and chamber. All rooms are on the ground floor with wide double-door entries. All surfaces are level and are a mix of carpet and laminate wood flooring.
- Audio-visual: We use a high-lumen projector and portable screen for visual presentations. An in-built microphone and speaker system is available for presenters to use if required. The chamber has an infrared hearing loop. For both the in-person and digital seminars, you receive digital copies of all material presented after the event.
