Assembly 101
Free public course on the basics of your local parliament

Are you interested in learning more about your local parliament? Our Assembly 101 community seminar explores how the Legislative Assembly operates and the roles of its elected members. It is free, open to all members of the public, and includes a catered morning tea.
About the course
Registrations begins at 9am in the reception room, on the left after clearing security at the Civic Square public entrance. The program begins at 9.30am. Highlights of the seminar include
- A crash course in the role and functions of the Legislative Assembly
- A session on how laws are made in the ACT
- A session on the ACT's Hare-Clark electoral system, including a hands-on mock election
- A question and answer session with your MLAs
- An optional 30-minute guided tour of the Assembly building
Participants are also invited to come back to the Assembly just before 2pm to watch question time from the public gallery in the chamber (not available on Friday 8 May).
This event includes complimentary tea, coffee, and water plus a free catered morning tea. We're happy to cater to your dietary requirements - just let us know on the booking e-form.

- Room access: The program uses the Assembly reception room, on the ground floor wide double-doors. All surfaces are level laminate wood flooring.
- Audio-visual: We use a high-lumen projector and ceiling-suspended screen for visual presentations. An in-built microphone and speaker system is available for presenters to use, if you require it. You receive digital copies of all material presented after the event, too.
