Are you a young Canberran interested in how democracies can respond to the world’s great challenges? Then we want to hear from you!

We’re looking for one young Canberran to be the ACT’s nominee to attend the 2024 Commonwealth Youth Parliament (CYP), held in Wellington, Aotearoa New Zealand from 2-5 September.

The successful applicant will only be the ACT’s nominee to fill one of 6 spots available to Australians at CYP 2021. This does not guarantee you will get to attend the conference. A further external selection process will then select which Australian nominees will attend. We cannot guarantee you will be selected.

If selected, your flights, accommodation, and conference meals will be covered. You’ll be responsible for covering any other meals and incidentals. Australian citizens do not require a visa to enter New Zealand.

What is Commonwealth Youth Parliament?

CYP is an experiential opportunity for young leaders from across the Commonwealth to participate in an international mock parliament to discuss and tackle global challenges.

As part of the event, you will participate in a realistic operation of a parliament, with formal procedures, caucuses, and debates all under the guidance of experience parliamentary officials from across the Commonwealth.

CYP is run by the Commonwealth Parliamentary Association, an international organisation made up of over 180 parliaments. Find out more about the Assembly’s involvement with the CPA.
