Acting Speaker welcomes new Auditor-General Ajay Sharma PSM
Andrew Braddock MLA
Acting Speaker of the Legislative Assembly
Thursday 27 November 2025
The Acting Speaker of the ACT Legislative Assembly, Andrew Braddock MLA, today announced that Ajay Sharma PSM will be appointed for a 7-year term as the new ACT Auditor-General.
‘Following a robust recruitment process and the required consultations, including with the Standing Committee on the Integrity Commission and Statutory Office Holders, I am pleased today to announce the appointment of Mr Ajay Sharma PSM to the position of ACT Auditor-General,’ Mr Braddock said.
Mr Sharma has worked in a variety of roles at the ACT Audit Office for over 20 years, including as Assistant Auditor-General since 2017.
In 2023, Mr Sharma received the Public Service Medal for outstanding public service to finance, and in strengthening accountability and transparency throughout the ACT Public Service.
The Auditor-General conducts independent financial and performance audits on ACT Government agencies and those entities in receipt of ACT Government funding or resources. The results of these audits are reported to the ACT Legislative Assembly and community. These audits are an important means of holding agencies and entities to account and encouraging them to continuously improve their services and activities.
The Assembly’s Standing Committee on Public Accounts and Administration reviews Auditor-General reports and examines Government witnesses on their progress in implementing the Auditor-General’s recommendations.
‘Mr Sharma has extensive experience auditing the ACT public sector and has been recognised for his contribution to accountability and transparency. I look forward to him commencing as ACT Auditor-General on 8 February 2026’ Mr Braddock said.
Statement ends.
