About the Work
Pinal Maniar‘s work speaks about the migration of this bird – the bar-tailed godwit Limosa lapponica – from Alaska, USA to Tasmania, Australia, across the Pacific Ocean, a journey with which she feels a personal connection to, having made the same trip herself. The 3-bird sculpture, one of which is embroidered, mimics stop-motion animation, giving a strong feeling of movement.
