About the Work
In 2020, the Canberra region was bombarded with bushfires, smoke, giant hailstones and floods, all of which has had catastrophic effects on Australian native wildlife. The Climate Grief Hanky Project comprises an ever-growing number of eucalyptus leaf, eco-dyed handkerchiefs featuring images of Australian native wildlife species created using thread. Using handkerchiefs as a metaphor for grief, fellow artists and participants in the Wagga Wagga Workshop were asked to sew the likeness of an Australian animal onto a handkerchief with black thread.
