About the Work
Alexander Boynes’ chosen subject of figures in motion finds expression in this diptych. The addition of a reflected colour on the reverse of the metal support makes his abiding interest in light clear. This work shows Wiradjuri dancer and choreographer Daniel Riley McKinley on a skateboard. McKinley, like Boynes, grew up in Canberra and started his dance career with Quantum Leap. He has danced with Bangarra Dance Theatre, and in 2022 was appointed the Artistic Director of the Australian Dance Theatre. Boynes says he is drawn to the ‘ongoing strength and significance of the figure in our visual culture.’
