About the Work
For Into coherence byrd has adapted his usual mural/graffiti practice to works suitable in scale and resolution for hanging on internal walls. As his nom de plume suggests, local birds are a characteristic subject matter for him. Cockatoos, rosellas and budgerigars, as well as this pelican, are frequently found in his compositions, displaying quirky personalities. The repeated element is also a favoured methodology, deriving from the stencil art technique he often uses.
About the Artist
Byrd graduated from the ANU School of Art in 2007. He has worked on public art, murals and commissioned works. His highly distinctive work may be found in the collections of The National Gallery of Australia, Canberra Museum and Gallery, and various private collections
both locally and abroad.
