About the Work
Stomping Grounds shows Davy’s playful and detailed crafting of a local bird, the Bush Stone Curlew, alongside its egg. Last sighted in Canberra in the 1970s, this bird has only recently been reintroduced into local sanctuaries. ‘Collaboration with other artists, scientists and the community is a major part of my art practice,’ the artist says. Davy’s inspiration is her concern for the environment, which she often expresses through birds, because they are an indicator of the overall health of our ecosystem. Stomping Grounds pays homage to the work done by government and individuals to save endangered species in sites such as Mulligans Flat Woodland Sanctuary.
