About the Work

Neve Foxcroft’s Kioloa Collection explores the process of making glass that has been practiced for thousands of years, in which sand, flux and heat are the fundamental ingredients used. These ingredients can be sourced from the beach — sand is silica, salt is sodium and shells are calcium. Impurities in these raw materials act as colourants creating a glass unique to a single location, in this case Kioloa, NSW. The glass is contained in ceramic forms cast in the landscape that her materials came from. She says: ‘The Kioloa Collection is the manifestation of the unique chemistry of an ecosystem, creating a body of work that captures the essence of place and takes the observer on a journey of curiosity and discovery.’

About the Artist

Neve Foxcroft graduated Bachelor of Visual Arts from the ANU School of Art & Design in December 2023. She was the recipient of an ACT Legislative Assembly Speaker’s Award as part of the Emerging Artists Support Scheme (EASS). Her mixed media installation Kioloa Collection was customised especially for the Assembly loan during 2024. The selection from this installation (see above) was made by the Speaker and the Curatorial Advisor.
