About the Work
Glacial movement is a hand-beaten, one-off, exhibition piece (broadly speaking a platter) that bears the marks of the maker’s hammer and holds its own as a sculpture.
About the Artist
Foster has an international reputation for his individual practice, and was hailed as a hollow ware prodigy soon after completing studies at the Canberra School of Art, ANU. He placed great emphasis on the importance of research and development, pushing bench technique as well as manufacturing technology, and worked with a freedom that comes from a mastery of his medium. Foster’s designs are characterised by an engaging reference to the way the objects have been made and how they will be used.
