About the Work

Klaus Moje is celebrated for his explorations of Bullseye glass. He has tested the limits of this new technology, exploring the dimensions made possible by the fusing and layering of planes of coloured glass. In his commission for the Legislative Assembly; Fused Glass, the idea of the plane as a spatial dimension has been pushed further and the work, now horizontal to the wall, determines the character of a major space. The striking formality of the grid pattern and flaming colours reflect the discipline and passion of the political process, and the importance of the Legislative Assembly within the ACT. This is an important work in Moje's creative trajectory and a major work for the ACT.

About the Artist

Moje's work as teacher, mentor and artist is at the heart of this reputation. In 2000 Moje was awarded the international Glass Art Society's Lifetime Achievement Award. Marking the occasion, Brian Kennedy, Director of the National Gallery of Australia, (1997 - 2004) acknowledged this in saying that "Moje has set an international benchmark for  innovation and application of glass."
