About the Work

Blackwell works in an innovative way with wood, often using laser cutting technology on ply, then ‘printing’ the work with ink. This work is a departure, and is a deeper cut into a solid wood substrate. In addition he has applied fine spray paint at an angle, resulting in the work altering as you pass by (called a lenticular effect). He notes, ‘My work creates an account of the experience of living and interacting in our current social reality. That experience itself is the result of countless phenomenological interactions and relationships that are mediated by technology, ideology and the concrete structure of the built environment.’
