Report on Inquiry into Petition 17-23

The Chair of the Standing Committee on Environment, Climate Change and Biodiversity, Dr Marisa Paterson MLA, today tabled the Committee’s report into its Inquiry into Petition 17-23: Indian (Common) Myna Control.

The Committee announced this inquiry on 12 December 2023. The Committee received 55 submissions, and held a public hearing on 23 April 2024. The Committee heard from individuals, community groups, the Minister for Environment, Parks and Land Management, and officials.

The Committee’s report made 4 recommendations directed towards increasing government recognition and support for efforts to control the population of Common mynas in the ACT, as well as urging monitoring of the impact these birds have on native flora and fauna.

Under the Assembly’s standing orders, the ACT Government is required to respond to committee reports within four months of tabling.
