Committee Report into Bail Amendment Bill 2026 published

The Standing Committee on Legal Affairs today published its report into the Bail Amendment Bill 2026.

The report makes 15 recommendations. During the inquiry the Committee received 18 submissions and heard from 23 witnesses.

Committee Chair, Chiaka Barry MLA said:

The Committee has made several recommendations with the aim of clarifying or improving certain aspects of the proposed legislation. The Committee has also recommended broader changes to the bail system, such as better data collection and bail support services, to support the bill’s operation in practice.

The Committee thanks all those who contributed to the Inquiry.
