Report tabled – Inquiry into the Administration of Bail in the ACT

Today the Chair of Standing Committee on Justice and Community Safety, Mr Peter Cain MLA, tabled the Committee’s report for its Inquiry into the Administration of Bail in the ACT.

The Committee has made 17 recommendations, including that the ACT Government enhance bail support in the ACT with a view to helping people meet their bail conditions, avoid re-offending while on bail and reducing numbers of people in remand in custody in the ACT.  A dissenting report was made by Mr Peter Cain MLA.

The Committee would like to thank those who made submissions and participated in the public hearings.

Under the Assembly’s standing orders, the ACT Government is required to respond to Committee reports within four months of tabling.
