Australia-NZ clerks gather to look at keeping parliaments relevant

Clerk of the Assembly, Tom Duncan, is joining other clerks and parliamentary officers at a trans-Tasman conference in Wellington this week exploring how to keep parliaments relevant.
Organised by the Australian and New Zealand Association of Clerks at the Table (ANZACATT), these annual conferences are an opportunity for professional development and help keep parliamentary officers aware of recent developments in legislatures in Australia and overseas.
Highlights from this year’s conference program include e-plebiscites, institutional tensions, the challenges of administering a parliament, and the next generation’s vision for a modern parliament. Hosted at the New Zealand Parliament from 19-21 January, it is being attended by parliamentary officers from Australia, New Zealand, the United Kingdom, and Canada.
What is ANZACATT?
The Australia and New Zealand Association of Clerks-at-the-Table (ANZACATT) is an organisation of over 80 clerks and other parliamentary officials from the Australian, New Zealand, and state and territory parliaments. Formed in 2001, ANZACATT holds professional development workshops annually and provides a forum to discuss and share best practice in parliamentary procedure and administration.
