Report tabled on the ACT Government’s COVID-19 pandemic response
The Select Committee on the COVID-19 pandemic response today tabled its report, which is available on its website.
The report has 33 recommendations, which include:
- the ACT Government consider the financial impacts of public health restrictions on businesses when determining support measures for them;
- ACT Policing review police powers for enforcing isolation or quarantine orders to ensure they are informed by public health considerations and that there are sufficient arrangements made with ACT Health to inform these powers; and
- the ACT Government work with Commonwealth and other State and Territory jurisdictions to progress national priorities for suicide prevention following the COVID-19 pandemic, including implementation of the new National Mental Health and Suicide Prevention Agreement.
Witnesses to the inquiry included Ministers from the ACT Government and organisations representing human rights, business, social services, education, mental health, and the arts.
Committee Chair, Ms Elizabeth Lee MLA, said “The Committee thanks everyone who participated in the inquiry and assisted in providing their expertise and experience. We trust that our recommendations will assist the ACT Government in managing the pandemic into 2022.”
