On 23 June 2021 the Carers Recognition Bill 2021 was presented in the Assembly by Suzanne Orr MLA as a Private Member’s Bill.
The Bill stands referred to the Standing Committee on Health and Community Wellbeing under a resolution of the Assembly of 2 December 2021 which provides for Committee inquiry into Bills coming before the Assembly.
On 6 July 2021 the Health and Community Wellbeing Committee agreed to inquire further into the Bill, and is calling for submissions to the inquiry, with a closing date for submissions of Friday, 23 July 2021.
The Committee plans to hold a public hearing on the Bill on Tuesday 27 July 2021, from 3 to 4 pm.
