Report on Inquiry into Building Quality
The Standing Committee on Economic Development and Tourism has made 48 recommendations in its report on the Inquiry into Building Quality, tabled today in the Legislative Assembly. Mr Jeremy Hanson MLA, Chair, said that “the report looks at the previous reports proposing building quality reforms and at the causes of building quality issues.” The Committee has made recommendations in the following areas:
- The approach of the regulator;
- Consumer advice and protection;
- Contracts and dispute resolution;
- Licensing of participants in the building industry;
- Certification; and
- Defect rectification.
“These recommendations compliment and advance reforms that the ACT Government is undertaking in this area.”
“The Committee received 103 submissions and heard from 52 witnesses. The evidence provided by industry and the public was essential in determining the Committee’s recommendations and the Committee thanks all those who contributed”.
