The Standing Committee on Planning and Urban Renewal announced today that they will be undertaking an inquiry into the ACT Planning Strategy 2018.
The Committee Chair, Caroline Le Couteur MLA, said:
“This inquiry aims to identify and gain a greater understanding of the key elements of the Strategic Direction for the development of Canberra. The Committee’s inquiry will help it to gauge whether there are issues arising from the Strategy that warrant a deeper public examination by the Committee.”
Ms Le Couteur also indicated that the outcomes of the inquiry would be of value in its consideration of future Territory Plan Variations:
‘‘The Committee needs to come to an informed view on several draft Territory Plan Variations each year. The ACT Planning Strategy is critical context for these Variations and it is important that Committee Members have the opportunity to fully understand the Strategy.”
The Committee will not be inviting or accepting submissions in relation to this inquiry.
A public hearing will be held on the 29 March 2019 to hear evidence from the Minister and the Environment, Planning and Sustainable Development Directorate.
