Following the receipt of a number of late submissions commenting on the ACT Fuel Pricing Committee’s interim report, the Committee has agreed to extend the opportunity for comment until 31 August 2019.
The Committee has been inquiring into how fuel prices are set in the ACT, the reasons for pricing discrepancies within the ACT and compared to other cities, the impact of costs on Canberra drivers, and possible measures which may result in lower costs and greater certainty and transparency.
Earlier this year the Committee released an Interim Report which put forward nine possible courses of action for recommendation, available at: https://www.parliament.act.gov.au/__data/assets/pdf_file/0004/1368850/Interim-Report-om-Inquiry-into-ACT-Fuel-Pricing.pdf
The Committee originally sought comments on the Interim Report by 31 July 2019.
Committee Chair Tara Cheyne MLA noted that the Committee had received hundreds of comments and detailed submissions when the inquiry was first established. It now wanted to ensure it had heard from as many people and organisations as possible on the proposed courses of action as it looked to finalise its recommendations.
The Committee’s final report is due by 17 September 2019.
