Invitation for Public Submissions

Inquiry into the cessation of the Music for Colleges course

The Standing Committee on Education, Employment and Youth Affairs invites submissions to its Inquiry into the cessation of the Music for Colleges course.

The full terms of reference are attached and are available on the Committee’s website -

The Committee welcomes submissions from individual and groups who have been impacted by the cessation of the Music for Colleges course. Written submissions should be lodged with the Committee Secretary by close of business on Thursday 30 May 2019.

The Committee prefers all submissions to be lodged in electronic form (Word format), although handwritten submissions are acceptable. All submissions, including those sent electronically, must include a name, an email address, a postal address and a telephone contact number. Personal contact details will not be published.

Submissions should be forwarded to:

The Committee intends to hold public hearings in June 2019 to assist the Inquiry. Please indicate in your written submission if you would like to appear before the Committee. Please be aware that the final witness selection rests with the Committee.

TERMS OF REFERENCE

Inquiry into the cessation of the Music for Colleges course

The Standing Committee on Education, Employment and Youth Affairs shall consider the following matters:

  1. The past delivery of the Music for Colleges (also known as the H Course music) including, but not limited to:
    1. Demonstrated long term benefits and outcomes;
    2. Demand;
    3. Programs on offer; and
    4. Teaching resources.
    5. The short and medium term impact of the 2018 decision to cut funding to the Music for Colleges program.
    6. Options for continuing the program including, but not limited to:
      1. Alternative funding steams; and
      2. Alternative delivery streams.
  2. Any other relevant matter.
